Nick Drake
Bryter Layter (Remastered)

Released: 29th April 2013
Label: Island Records

Nick Drake is without a doubt one of the greatest singer songwriters that has ever graced planet earth. It is such a shame that he never realised how great he was in his life time, he battled with depression and self confidence and sadly left this world at the tender age of 26. Listening to his music, I wonder what he would have made of the fact that throughout the years his music has given so much pleasure to so many people and influenced countless artists. I like to think that it would have made him happy, I just wish he had stayed with us for longer to see the impact his music has had on the world.

Island records are releasing a remastered boxed vinyl edition of Nick's second album ‘Bryter Layter’, an album which every household needs, well actually every household needs all three albums that Nick Drake gave the world. ‘Five Leaves Left’, ‘Bryter Layter’ and 'Pink Moon’ are all albums that no collection can be without.

If you are new to Nick Drake then your world is about to be changed. I remember the first time I heard Nick Drake when I was a teenager in the 90s listening to ‘One Of These Things First’ a song on Bryter Layter. I could not believe what I was hearing, the most beautiful voice I had ever heard, singing such thoughtful and reflective lyrics which had such a big impact on my life. From that moment on Nick Drake has been an artist that has always been with me.

‘Bryter Layter’ contains so many great songs, ‘Hazey Jane II’, 'At The Chime Of A City Clock’, ‘Hazey Jane I’, ‘Fly’, ‘Poor Boy’ and ‘Northern Sky’ all highlight why Nick Drake is a genius. The way he picks and gently strums the guitar and his unique voice are enough to make the world stop spinning.

Listening to ‘Bryter Layter’ I am amazed that this album sold less than 5000 copies on its initial release. How was it allowed that the music of Nick Drake was so overlooked in his lifetime? This, like his other two albums, are timeless pieces of work that will be sure to outlive every human being in this universe.

Fans of Nick Drake will, I am sure, be desperate to get their hands on this collectable reissue of ‘Bryter Layter’ and if you are someone who has yet to have your life enriched by Nick Drake then buy this album and I guarantee you will never look back.
