Gorija - L'Enfant Sauvage

L'Enfant Sauvage

Released: 25th June 2012
Label: Roadrunner

Hailing from Bayonne and having honed their fine metal chops for well over ten years, they return with the follow up to 2008's ‘The Way of All Flesh’ and what a fine follow up it is.

Kicking off with the aptly named ‘Explosia’, the tone is set perfectly for the album which is one of skull crushing intensity and heaviness. Following that is the first single to be lifted from this album and its title track showing absolutely no sign of slowing up, if anything it keeps getting denser and denser.

This isn't to say the album is all about how heavy you can be as Gojira have fantastic proficiency whether it’s the prog style time signature defying drums or the guitar dexterity that lifts them into the realms of fellow metal stalwarts Mastodon and Lamb of God. ‘The Axe’ continues the onslaught with guitars so choppy they could make you feel sea sick, before ‘The Wild healer’ comes looming into view, a quite mellow instrumental track but that just makes you realise that you're living in the eye of the storm and its about to churn you up again.

They truly live up to their namesake (Gojira = original Japanese Godzilla) as this is the kind of album that can level cities. It's a truly intense experience but it will leave you wanting more.
