The Imagined Village
Bending the Dark

Label: ECC Records

The Imagined Village is a musical project founded by Simon Emmerson of the Afro Celt Sound System, forming in 2004 and have since released two albums.

‘Bending The Dark’ is the bands third album, and my introduction to the band. As far as introductions go I don’t think it could get much better than this. ‘Bending The Dark’ is an album of so many wonderful sounds it really is impossible not to be left in awe.

The band combine fiddles, guitars, sitar, bass, keyboards, electronics, percussion and vocals in such an imaginative way, there is so much in this album to immerse yourself in you will find yourself hearing something new with each listen.

‘The Captain’s Apprentice’ opens the album with a ghostly vocal that will make you stop dead in your tracks and listen intently to every word that is being sung. ‘New York Trader’ opens with a carnival style percussion and when the vocals kick in you will again devout your entire attention to the story that is being played out. ‘Winter Singing’ is a positive song that will leave you feeling happy even in the darkest of times.

As the album progress it becomes clear that this is an album that you have to listen to from start to finish. The art of creating an album is something that at times can get lost in this modern world that we live in. Thankfully The Imagined Village are a band who understand the importance of an album as a piece of art and this is an album that will bring a great deal of enjoyment to music fans across the world.
