Broken Fires

Based: Swansea
Genre: Alt/Rock/Folk
Website: Facebook

Broken Fires are a seven piece band from Swansea who will soon become a firm favourite amongst you all. The band formed in 2014 since when their debut EP ‘Out Of The Woods’ has received notable reviews together with airplay from Bethan Elfyn, Adam Walton, Jen Long and local radio stations including Nation Radio and The Wave.

Amongst their influences they cite Frightened Rabbit, Weezer, Ben Kweller, Arcade Fire and Two Gallants. Upon listening to Broken Fires these influences can definitely be heard, especially in the title track of the ‘Out Of The Woods’ EP which certainly nods its head in the direction of the genius that is Ben Kweller.

The band have this week self-released a new single ‘Elephants’ which is one of the greatest singles I have heard this year. I guarantee that within thirty seconds you will be firmly hooked on this great pop song and the following five minutes will pass you by in an instant as you get taken over by the uplifting melodies, vocals and energetic percussion. ‘Elephants’ will surely propel Broken Fires on one very exciting journey which you need to be part of.

Broken Fires will be releasing their debut album on their own label ‘End of the Line Records’ in May, an album which was recored and mixed in the kitchens, bedrooms, garages and living rooms of their friends and family. This is a band that clearly have independent values firmly rooted within their music and, reading about them and listening to their songs, it is clear this is a band who write and record music simply because it is what they love do to. If they stick to those independent values and continue to write songs as well as they currently are then it will not be long before the entire world sits up and takes notice.
