Greta Isaac

Based: Cardiff
Genre: Alt/Folk

One of the joys of writing for a music magazine is discovering new music that makes you stop dead in your tracks and become oblivious to everything else that is going on around you. This is exactly what happened when I started to listen to Greta Isaac.

Greta is a young singer/songwriter based in Cardiff who has a musical maturity far beyond her years. She taught herself to play guitar in January 2011, then began writing songs so accomplished and sublime that it is really hard to believe she is so young and new to the whole songwriting process.

Greta compliments the sound of the acoustic guitar, one of the most beautiful sounds in the world, with a voice so innocent and warming that you will instantly fall in love with her music.

We have been privy to experience her live performances on two occasions in the last six months. First at Swn Festival and just two days ago in the Gwdihw Cafe Bar. Despite the differing audiences, venues and sound quality on those nights, Greta’s honest, accomplished songwriting and natural charm was a constant.

Female singer/songwriters have taken on a resurgence over the last couple of years with Laura Marling seemingly leading the way. These demos from Greta are more than enough evidence to prove that she is just waiting for her chance to cause the entire nation to be lost for words and become captivated by her music.
