Christiaan Webb

Venue: Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff
Date: 13th April 2012

Clwb Ifor Bach has played host to many a great gig over the years, it is one of those intimate venues that you know will always put on a good show. Friday 13th was no exception with Christiaan Webb and Joshua Caole, providing a great night of music.

Cardiff Based Joshua Caole opened the evening playing songs from his debut album, ‘Moon Palace’. The set was split into two halves, the fist involving Joshua playing solo, to then be joined by the band for the second half. The audience listened respectfully and attentively to every sound that was played and every word that was sung. Joshua was able to interact with the audience in this intimate venue winning the crowd over as much with his music as with his amusing tales. Joshua Caole is clearly a very promising talent for the future.

If for some reason the name Christiaan Webb has yet to make its way onto your music radar then you seriously need to devote a significant amount of time of your life to this man’s talents.

Christiaan was back in Cardiff to showcase songs from his debut solo album ‘A Man Possessed’ (review here). Christiaan created an intimate feel to the gig, with tales about his father and brothers, tales about Basketball, and his belief and love for pop music. The night had a real family feel to it, as the musicians that Christiaan used was the same band that Joshua had used. This is what it is all about, a collection of like minded people all coming together for the love of music. Highlights of the set included ‘Midnight Moon’, ‘There’s Nowhere I’d Rather Be’ and ‘What If There’s No Afterlife’. To top the night of we were also treated to Webb Brothers classic ‘Funny Ol’ Kind Of Music’.

As on so many occasions over the years, we leave Clwb Ifor and head out into the Cardiff Night sky knowing that we have just experienced yet another memorable gig.
