Paper Aeroplanes

Venue: Thé Pot Cafe, Cardiff
Date: 8th December 2011

I’ve to many ‘intimate’ gigs over the years. Tonight’s Paper Aeroplanes gig however took that meaning to a whole new level. This was a gig that was so intimate it felt personal. Including the band I counted twenty six people, all squeezed into Thé Pot. A quaint little cafe in the Cathays area of Cardiff.

This was an unplugged gig in the truest of senses. Two acoustic guitars, a violin and no microphones.

For those of you unaware of Paper Aeroplanes they are made up of Sarah Howells and Richard Llewellyn and they create beautiful heart wrenching music that has it’s roots in folk with infectious melodies that cross over into indie and pop.

Tonight we are treated to a ninety minute performance of songs taken from their 2010 released ‘The Day We Ran Into The Sea’ and this years releases ‘We Are Ghosts’ and ‘A Comfortable Sleep EP’. Each song is perfectly crafted and delicately played with heartfelt lyrics that are brought to life by Sarah’s incredible voice and vocal range.

As the December rain hammered against the windows, the warm tea and fresh cake, the friendly atmosphere and the incredible talent that is Paper Aeroplanes made Thé Pot a wonderful place to be.
